BILD recently carried out their three yearly听review听of听our听Meas programme, and we are pleased to announce that听we听have been successfully recertified for a further three years.听听

Meas (which is a Scots Gaelic word meaning 鈥榬espect鈥�) is听our听behaviour support training programme for all colleagues working in residential or education support roles.听It听is externally certified by the British Institute of Learning Disabilities (BILD Act) according to the Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) training standards.听听

Version 2 of Meas was launched in 2025,听including a听new manual,听presentations听and resources, with a focus on trauma informed听practice听and feedback from colleagues on the听new version听has been outstanding.听

The RRN Standards are internationally recognised and endorsed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), focusing on reducing unnecessary restrictive practices and improving the quality of support across health, social care, and education.听听

The听BILD听process paid particular attention to specific developments that have taken place since the last recertification in 2023:听

• Introduction and implementation of a Reducing Restrictive Practices strategy,听resulting听in a considerable reduction in听restrictive physical interventions.听

• Reduction of听non-physical restrictions such as environmental and blanket restrictions, with an emphasis on improving quality of life听outcomes.听

• Introduction of and embedding a digital system for collecting,听analysing听and learning from incident data.听

• The integration of trauma informed approaches听into听our training and practice models.听

• The development of the Service听Development听Practitioner role as a means of combining training delivery with听practice leadership, including the听embedding of the colleague competency programme.听

We听have also been selected as one of only听eight听organisations nationwide to take part in a听six month听trial for the new RRN Standards Version 2, which are due to be rolled out in 2027.听

鈥淲e have come a long way over the last three years in terms of integrating trauma informed approaches, and it is wonderful to see this celebrated as part of this review. Furthermore, our continued passion to enable meaningful lives and support future developments to best practice is demonstrated through our participation in the trial of the new RRN Standards Version 2.
